"Go and make disciples, teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you."
-Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20)
My heart goes out to the families of the Victims in the Colorado Shooting. My sympathy is with the Victims, & their Families and I pray for comfort and peace for them all. My heart is heavy-laden for Holmes' parents, who must be shell-shocked while coming to terms with the fact their baby boy could commit such a violent act. My heart is also with James Holmes. A 24-year-old man, so lost and alone, acting out in such a way that has hurt so many people.
The truth is, we all live to satisfy ourselves. We are selfish. We wallow in our own misery and rarely take the time to lift one another up. We are so focused on ourselves. "I AM NUMBER ONE" is how many of us live. Before anyone misreads what I am saying, I am not condoning what James Holmes has done, nor am I making excuses for him, what I am talking about is lost souls and compassion for one another.
Once we are saved, God becomes our life, our sustenance, our fulfillment. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, we are given the bread of life for He was the good shepherd who lay down his life the sheep.
God changes us inside. His everlasting love and His Holy Spirit cheerfully invades our life. God has asked us to love one another, have mercy for each other, not to cast stones at each other. Not to snob or hate sinners, but to show them the way to share what He has taught us.
Which brings me to my original verse. "Go and make Disciples." Now that I am saved, depart from his bosom. "Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." What has God taught me? What does He speak to my heart about? I should share this with others and not worry incessantly with my own problems. Be compassionate to others. Helping and loving them.
My favorite verse is Luke 6:36, "Be Merciful, just as your Father is also merciful." I pray each night "To be kind, patient and filled with loving mercy." If you correspond through email with me, you will already recognize this prayer as my signature. How can we ask Mercy from God, if we ourselves show no Mercy to one another?
I cannot, in good faith, sit here and judge James Holmes. I do not agree with what he has done, but it is God who shall judge him and not me. I have no idea what is going through his mind. I just pray that he somehow finds remorse and repentance. I pray that God will come to him, even in his cell.
God has filled my heart with mercy and sadness for the lost. Each and every person should have the opportunity to know God. He has taught me to try and reach out to anyone I can through Him, to share His love... with everyone. To myself, love even the sinners, the lames, the lepers.God loved them. His heart broke for them. He loved them so much, he sent His ONLY Son to pay the penalty in full for our sins.
Even if you are lost, God still loves you. Jesus can still save you. Satisfaction can only be found in Christ. Not from alcohol, not from drugs, not from killing one another, not from food, not from sex, nothing but Jesus Christ. He sent Jesus to take the power away from our sin nature, the nature in which we were born. Jesus is the one and only Son of God who can save us from ourselves. Understand that Jesus died for you. For YOU. If you know that, then submit yourself to him fully.
There is a prayer in one of my Bibles that reads, "If you believe these things, tell God. You can pray something like this, 'God thank you for loving me. I know I have sinned against you. I believe that your son, Jesus, died to pay my sins because of your great love for me. I believe that you raised Jesus from the dead. I now put my trust only in Jesus to love me and forgive me of my sins and lead me in my new life. Thank you for our new relationship and the gift of eternal life! Amen!' "
If you have not accepted Jesus into your heart and accepted Him as your Lord and Savior, I encourage you to decide that you need Him. We cannot do this alone. We will only further destroy ourselves. Let God take over. The first step is to accept Jesus.
If you have accepted Jesus, I encourage you to think of someone in your life who may be lost and witness to them. Think of that person, pray about what you should say to them, ask God to flow through your words so that they may find Him. Be that someone in their life that reminds them Someone does love them. Give them the prayer above if you need to.
Allow Gods mercy to flow through your heart.
As always, I encourage you to study His word and strengthen your relationship in Him. The Bible has some amazing stories in it and you will be surprised at just how much He will talk to you, if you will only submit yourself.
I love you, Brothers & Sisters,
